Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

陈家祠
Chénjiā Cí

Nineteen halls of carved brick, wood and ceramic ridge figures. The best building in the city.

Built in 1894 by the Chen families of the province as an academy and ancestral hall. Look up: the roof ridges are crowded with opera scenes in glazed clay. Now the folk art museum. Allow an hour and a half; metro line 1 to Chen Clan Academy.
