Guidelines
Short version: be specific, be kind, no ads.
Posting
- Be specific. "The Airport Express from PEK takes 25 minutes and costs ¥25" helps. "Beijing is amazing" does not.
- Say when. Things change. A tip from last month is worth more than one from three years ago, so date it if it is not recent.
- No advertising. Hotels, tours, VPNs, visa agents, "DM me for". Recommending a place you paid for and liked is fine; promoting one you are paid by is not. Undisclosed affiliate links are removed.
- Your own words and photos. Do not paste copyrighted text or upload photos you did not take.
- Pick a city if there is one. Planning questions with no destination are welcome under "Planning".
Comments and answers
- Answer the question that was asked. Corrections are welcome; contempt is not.
- No harassment, slurs, or personal attacks. One warning at most.
- Politics: this is a travel site. Practical effects on travellers (a closure, a check, a rule) are on topic; arguments about them are not.
Events
- Events must be open to the public and free to attend, or state the cost plainly.
- Meet in public places. Put the venue in Chinese so people can get there.
- Hosts are members, not staff. Attend at your own judgement, tell someone where you are going, and report anything that feels wrong.
- Cancel in advance if you cannot make it; people plan around you.
Stays
Marking that you are in a city shows your name and dates to signed-in members. Add only what you are comfortable with; the note field is optional and public to members.
Moderation
Posts go live immediately. New accounts can post twice in their first day, and posts with links from new accounts wait for a quick review. Anything reported three times is hidden automatically until we look at it. Spam and harassment lead to removal; repeated spam leads to a ban. Decisions can be appealed by email.
