Shaolin Temple

Shàolín Sì

The kung fu monastery on Mount Song, ninety minutes east. Big, commercial, still worth it for the Pagoda Forest.

Real-name tickets online; the site is large and the shuttle is extra.

Bus from Luoyang to Dengfeng and a taxi, or an arranged car. Skip the performance, walk to the Pagoda Forest of monks' tombs, and if you have legs left climb to the Sanhuang Zhai on the cliff path.
