Yúlín Kū

Mogao's smaller sister in a river canyon, with Tangut-era paintings and almost no visitors.

Reservation needed

Tickets on the same official system as Mogao; a few caves need a separate special ticket.

Two hours by car. The Western Xia caves 2, 3 and 29 are the finest Tangut art anywhere. Quiet enough that the guide will linger.
