The sandstone pillar forest, three hours west. Not a day trip; give it two nights.

Reservation needed

Park tickets are real-name and valid for several days; the Bailong lift and cable cars are separate.

Trains from Changsha take about three hours to Zhangjiajie West, then an hour by bus to Wulingyuan. Stay in the village at the park gate and walk the Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain sections early, before the buses.
