Yuelu Mountain and Academy
A wooded hill with a Song academy, a Buddhist temple and the Aiwan Pavilion among the maples.
The mountain is free; the academy, one of the four great academies of the Song, has a ticket and courtyards of enormous calm. Walk up past the Aiwan Pavilion, red with maples in November, and down the other side to Hunan University.
