Hundreds of macaques live on the wooded hill in the middle of the city, and they are entirely unafraid. They will take food out of a hand, a bag off a shoulder and sunglasses off a head.
Carry nothing loose, keep bags zipped and in front of you, do not feed them, and do not stare one in the eye — that reads as a challenge. Bites do happen and mean a hospital trip for rabies shots, so treat them as wildlife rather than a photo opportunity. Walk on and they lose interest.
