Cangqiao Straight Street
A kilometre of stone houses on a canal, with bridges every hundred metres and people living in all of it.
Walk it in the early evening when the cooking starts. Wine shops sell by the ladle from clay jars. Cross any bridge and the lanes on the other side are the same, without the shops.
