Buddhist caves in a canyon of red cliffs, reached by boat across a reservoir. A full day.
Two hours by car to the Liujiaxia dam, then a speedboat up the reservoir to the cliffs. The 27-metre seated Buddha and Western Qin caves from the fifth century. Book a car or a shared tour; there is no bus for the last leg.
